Through out the nights in Denmark, the Danes would party, until Grendel appeared one night. “Hrothgars men lived happy in his hall. Grendel, who haunted the moors, the wild marshes.” (line 15-17) Hrothgar’s men had wonderful nights in the mead hall until being slaughtered by the terrible Grendel. Grendel was born as a descendent of Cain. “He was spawned in that slime, conceived by a pair those monsters born of Cain.” Grendel is a descendant of Cain, therefore his himself is a monster Grendel Terrorizes the mead hall every night. Killing the guards and eating them. For 12 winters. (line 405) Since Cain killed Able god banished him, punishing him forever. (lines 19-21)

One night Grendel decided to terrorize the hall again. He slipped into hall when they were all asleep and killed 30 men in a instant swoop of his hands. (lines ) Unferth took the liberty of stepping up to Beowulf and challenging him by saying that his accomplishments are not great at all. (Line 235) Beowulf sets out to Denmark with 14 soldiers. +“My lord, the great king of Danes, commands me to tell you that he knows of your noble birth and that having come to him over the open seas you have come bravely and are welcome. (lines ) Beowulf has just arrived in Denmark. He is greeted by the kings servant, Wulfgar. Beowulf is taking up to the mead hall to meet Hrothgar, the king of the Danes. “Hrothgar replied, protector of the Danes.” (lines 190) Hrothgar is the king of Denmark.

Beowulf rips Grendels arm off. Grendel is able to escape to his home in the lake.“Grendel would be wounded but he would go back to his den.” (line ) Grendel lost his fight with the famous Geat. He lost his arm in the process. The battle with Grendel was furious. He gave up one of his men, so he could defeat Grendel and have he element of surprise. The fight didn’t end well for Grendel, Beowulf ripped his arm off. (Line ) After Beowulf defeated Grendel, he was rewarded with mead (wine) from the Queen of Denmark. (Lines 510) Beowulf hears of the terrorizer Grendel. He set out for sail. No one tells him that he can’t go. “In his far-off home Beowulf, Higlacs follower and the strongest of the Geats-greater and stronger than anyone anywhere in the world-heard how Grendel filled nights with horror and quickly commanded a boat fitted out.” (line ) When Beowulf heard of these stories he got a suitable boat to set sail in, for Denmark.

Hrothgar is telling Beowulf a story of the home of Grendel and his mom. “A deer, hunted by through the woods by a pack of hounds, a stag with great horns, though driven through the forest from faraway places, prefers to die on those shores, refuses to save it’s life in the that water.” (line ) The deer would rather die on the shore then venture into the sinister water. Beowulf killed Grendels mother by a sword forged a giant. He cut her in the neck and broke the bones and everything. (Lines ) After Beowulf kills Grendels Mom, he ventures further into the cave searching for Grendel (Page 42) Beowulf's sword was broken, but he found a sword on the wall. “Then he saw hanging on the wall, a heavy sword, hammered by the Giants” (lines ) Beowulf finds a sword on the wall forged by the power the Giants, which he used to slay the mother of Grendel.

Beowulf must return 50 years later to fight “Beowulf must return to Demark to fight the dragon.” (Page 42) after a long retirement Beowulf returns as a king from Geatland to slay the dragon. Beowulf wants to fight this fight fair. He wants to use no weapons if the monster can be killed that way. “I’d use no sword, no weapon, if this beast could be killed without it” (line ) Beowulf wishes that the fight were even. He thinks that if he used no weapon and killed the Dragon he could gain more respect. Beowulf starts to summon the dragon from the beginning of the cave. The dragon comes out more furious than ever. He seeks out Beowulf and the fight starts. The Dragon shoots flames out of his mouth only for Beowulf to block them with his shield (Line ) Beowulf and young warrior wiglaf are able to kill the Dragon. Although the beast is defeated, Beowulf has suffered many great wounds (Page 45)
