Jessica Finn Period 3 The Power Of One

Concerns There are some families who don’t have enough money to get Christmas presents or to have a good meal on Christmas or Christmas Eve. Some of the problems they have are not being able to find jobs, disabilities, or maybe they have a mental disabled member in their family and all of their money goes to expenses to take care of that person. People take such advantage of Christmas and just want, there aren’t that many people that actually want to give to someone who needs it rather than complaining about what they don’t have.

Every year my family and I buy little Christmas presents for families. We wrap them, and put them in a big box along with food that the family can prepare for their Christmas dinner. My goal is to do that again this year and give to at least 20 families. My family and I will be delivering the families gifts on Christmas eve to their door step. Goal

 Get the names, age, and address of families.  Put our money together to buy food, presents, and wrapping paper.  Prepare appetizers for the people coming over.  Have everyone meet at my house at 4:30 Christmas Eve.  Play Christmas Music and start putting the gift boxes together.  At 9:00 PM, begin delivering the Christmas boxes to the designated homes. Form A Plan

Act 1.Go to Committees office and get lists of names and address’ of the less fortunate people around us. 2.Fund raiser at step moms work to raise money for gifts and food. 3.Purchase the items being used for the job; Presents, food, wrapping paper, boxes. 4.Clean house that is being used and prepare appetizers and drinks for guests. 5.Set up stations for the process. 6.Make sure everyone is going to get an equal amount of items. 7.Print out lists of names, ages, and what the family is asking for and spread them out on a table for the guests to choose which ones to take care of. 8.Set the time for the people helping to come over at 4:30. 9.Play some Christmas music and start wrapping the presents. 10.By 9:00 every one should be just about done, so we will start delivering the gift boxes.

The Process This is some of the presents that we had wrapped within the first half hour or so, there are gifts from all different sizes for each family in need.

Follow Up The whole thing went great, there wasn’t really any problems we came across but wrapping that many presents and all of the other petty work we did was a little bit stressful. All together it took about 4 and a half hours to complete everything including delivering the boxes. After we were finished and everyone saw what they had done you could see how good it made them feel to be helping out all of these families. The fundraiser we did to raise some extra money for it was a success, we raised about 450 dollars with the help from the club members at my step moms work. I can definitely see myself and most every one else that helped out doing this again next year. The hardest part about this project was to make sure either every family, or every one in the family got equal gifts so nobody felt left out. I think that doing this made a lot of the people who helped out realize that Christmas isn’t just about how many presents they get and that part of it is about helping out the people who really need it.
