POLAR BEARS

Habitat . The artic is on the top of the earth . The polar bear is a mammal that lives on Arctic .The entire circumpolar Arctic region is polar bear habitat

It’s appearance The polar bear is the largest bear in the world. Adults weigh 650 to 1100 pounds (295 kg to 498 kg ) Males are larger than females. A polar bear's coat can be from white to yellowish in colour. When the bears come ashore in the summer they eat plants and berries.

They have thick oily fur coats and a layer of fat under their skin They have thick oily fur coats and a layer of fat under their skin. When bears come out of the water they shake the water off their coats. The polar bear is so strong it can kill an animal with one blow to the head

Its foods In late summer and early autumn the bears go along the coastline looking for dead whales and dead walruses. They also eat lemmings, arctic foxes and birds. Their favourite food is the ringed seal. The polar bear waits by the seal's breathing holes in the ice and quickly snatches the seal when it pokes its head out of the hole.

What it can do Polar bears are able to swim in the icy Arctic Ocean without dieing of the cold temperatures. The polar bear is nomadic. It travels to find its food.

How many are left? Scientists estimate that there's about 22,000 to 27,000 polar bears left on the Artic The impact of man is decreasing the population of the polar bear. This happening by green house gasses (global warming) hunting , less of food and other human impacts

The human impact The impact on the polar bears population is decreasing every year by the green house gasses and hunting by humans. The way the problem is being dealt with the future of the polar bears could be few.

The Food Chain

Future of polar bears The future of the polar bears can be changed if the problems of the polar bears are resolved. The polar bears will be around for years to come we must stop the killing of the polar bears.

Life and death .Polar bears can live 20 to 30 years, but only a small proportion of polar bears live past 15 to 18 years . Evidence of human polar bear hunts have been found in 2,500- to 3,000-year-old ruins. Arctic peoples have traditionally hunted polar bears for food, clothing, bedding, and religious purposes.

how the polar bears keep warm Polar bears have white, thick, creamy fur that helps them keep warm and is a good camouflage on the snowy landscape. An average male polar bear weighs over 1,000 pounds and is about ten feet long. A female polar bear is much smaller. They are about eight feet long. Sometimes Alaskan polar bears weigh over 1,500 pounds.
