Ceramic Coatings By: Dustin Syamken Material Science 3344 Dr. Larry Peel

History Originally, the coating was invented for the steel industry. The reason for this was the molten metal being produced was causing the metal machinery to melt. Therefore Ceramic Coating was invented.

Process The part is thoroughly cleaned The part is thoroughly cleaned Then the part is blasted inside and out Then the part is blasted inside and out The part is sprayed with the coating The part is sprayed with the coating : coating is made of zirconium oxide, alkali silicate & water : coating is made of zirconium oxide, alkali silicate & water Next it is baked at 500 Degrees Next it is baked at 500 Degrees Finally it is polished Finally it is polished

Applications Space Marine Automotive High temperature enviroment Can even be used on old parts

Benefits Extends the life of the part Withstand high temperature Can be polished to resemble Chrome plating or high polished aluminum Increase power and fuel economy
