 Organ Transplantation  Functions of Kidney  Kidney Transplantation OBJECTIVES

 It is a transplantation of organ for the purpose of replacing damaged or absent organ.  The tissue and cells must be living for organ transplantation.  Blood and tissue test must match with donor to transplant an organ. Organ Transplantation

 The first transplanted organ is cornea in  Organs that can be transplanted are the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas, intestine, and thymus.

 Removing wastes and water from the blood  Balancing chemicals in your body  Releasing hormones Functions of Kidney

 Helping control blood pressure  Helping to produce red blood cells  Producing vitamin D, which keeps the bones strong and healthy

KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION A kidney transplant is an operation that places a healthy kidney in your body. After transplantation operation, the patient do not need dialysis anymore.

 There are 2 types of kidney transplantation according to the source of kidney.  1) Kidney from living donors  2) Kidney from deceased donors. TYPES OF TRANSPLANTATION

 The surgery lasts for 3 hours. The donor kidney will be placed in the lower abdomen and its blood vessels connected to arteries and veins in the patient's body.  When this is complete, blood will be allowed to flow through the kidney again.  The final step is connecting the ureter from the donor kidney to the bladder. In most cases, the kidney will soon start producing urine. Operation Process
