Mission Statement Kristi House provides a healing environment for child victims of sexual abuse and their families through community collaboration and system coordination.

Values Statement Kristi House is dedicated to respecting, protecting and healing the children and families who pass through our doors.

Kristi House is committed to: Operating the Orlowitz-Lee Children’s Advocacy Center, a child-friendly, culturally sensitive facility and program that alleviates the traumatic effect of sexual abuse of children and minimizes the chance of revictimization.

Kristi House is committed to: Coordinating the investigation of child sexual abuse cases through multi-disciplinary teams and improving access for victims to therapeutic, legal, medical and other support services.

Kristi House is committed to: Leading the community response to the problem of child sexual abuse through the promotion of best practices for prevention, education, research and treatment.

Many times families in need of services call for information. They have often contacted numerous agencies without feeling like they are being helped. One of the important aspects of Kristi House is that we HELP the families find the services they need, even if Kristi House services are not appropriate.

Background of Kristi House and the Center Began as a Task Force in 1994 Developed in response to children coming into the system with additional allegations of abuse Began at the request of the Miami-Dade County State Attorney and District Administrator for the Department of Children and Families

Children’s Advocacy Center Staffing Multi-disciplinary Occurs every Friday from 10 a.m. until noon Reviews all cases that were interviewed the prior week and any others that are difficult or require follow-up Staffing is an INTERNAL review and all information discussed in staffing is confidential

Kristi House Program Components Case Coordination: Includes sexual abuse victims, consultation with families, referrals, advocacy, case tracking and transportation Case Management: Includes all of the above with intensive outreach, face-to-face contact, home visits for duration of service Therapy: Includes sexual abuse victims only; is free of charge; at OLCAC and/or Homestead; transportation is available Education and Outreach: Prevention presentations for students, staff and parents in targeted feeder pattern. Volunteer program: To work with children at the Center, special events and fund raising. Assessments: Children in dependency system with allegations of sexual abuse, comp. assessment for level of care and mental health evaluation.

Case Coordination & Case Management Guiding principle: Comprehensive “Level of care” and “wraparound” services Linking: Assessment w/ Goals. Needs w/ Services Male and female children under the age of 18 years who have disclosed abuse. Siblings of children with a history of sexual abuse, if they display symptoms that raise concerns about their own history of abuse or if they are thought to be at high risk for sexual abuse. Children who display behaviors that may be consistent with a history of sexual abuse when suspicion that sexual abuse has occurred, whether or not a disclosure has been made.

Kristi House Therapy Therapy Department receives referrals from Kristi House Case Coordination, Department of Children and Families and the State Attorney’s Office. Clients are seen free of charge, through Medicaid, or Victims Of Crime fund eligibility.

Comprehensive Assessments Receive referrals from Our Kids, Inc. Billed through Medicaid or Our Kids Conducted by Medicaid qualified mental health practitioners. Innovative, best practice assessment protocol guides practitioner in preparation of placement recommendation and mental health diagnosis.

Education and Outreach Age-appropriate presentations in schools focusing on issues of victimization: Safe Child, Boundary Safety, Dating Violence. Purpose is: to educate and prevent to identify and assess possible victims to make appropriate community referrals to identified victims. Includes victims of all types of crime, not exclusive to sexual abuse.
