Doctrine Examined Review: TRINITY: “The Trinitarian life is not a doctrine to be philosophized beyond the teachings of Scripture but rather a humble, loving, worshipful, relational, diverse, submissive, and joyful life to be entered into by the Spirit through the Son to the Father.” (Doctrine page 35)

Doctrine Examined Revelation: God Speaks Key Question: How do we hear the voice of God? –Does God speak internally through my spirit? –Does God speak externally through a holy man such as a guru or prophet? –Does God speak through ancient wisdom of collected tradition? –Does God not speak at all because God is not a person but rather a force? –Or, does God speak specifically and personally to His people?

Doctrine Examined Matthew 3: And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven [God the Father] said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

Doctrine Examined Revelation: God Speaks Key Question: How do we hear the voice of God? –“God has revealed Himself to us so that we might know Him and worship Him. Our understanding of His revelation and our view of Scripture will dramatically affect our understanding of all other doctrines.” (Doctrine Page 438) How does your view of revelation, specifically the Bible, affect all other doctrinal beliefs?

Doctrine Examined Revelation: God Speaks What are examples of Special Revelation? –Visions, Dreams & Angels: Genesis 15:1, Isaiah 6:1-8, Luke 1:26-38, Acts 9:1-11 –Direct Speech: Exodus 3:1-6, 1 Samuel 3:1-14, 1 Kings 19:9-18 –Jesus: John 1:1, Hebrews 1:1-2 –The Bible: 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21

Doctrine Examined Revelation: God Speaks What we believe about the Bible? –The Bible is sufficient to know God and live for God 2 Timothy 3:17 –The Bible is authoritative & necessary for Godly living Psalm 119:9-16, James 1:22 –“Scripture is the court of highest authority for Christians and their leaders, by which any alleged revelation from God is to be tested.” (Doctrine Page 41) What does all of this mean to you personally?
