SURE WORD BIBLE LESSONS You Can Gain the Victory

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-21.

1. What are we if we commit sin? John 8:34. “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.”

“His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.” Proverbs 5:22.

“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” Romans 6:16.

2. What is the payment for serving sin? Romans 6:23. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

3. What was the mission of Jesus? Matthew 1:21. “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins.”

4. What does being saved from our sins mean? Romans 6:18. “Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.”

5. Can Jesus really free us from sin’s control? John 8:36. “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

“For sin shall not have dominion over you.” Romans 6:14.

6. Is it possible to serve God and sin? Matthew 6:24. “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

7. Since serving two masters is not possible, what must we do 7. Since serving two masters is not possible, what must we do? Joshua 24:15. “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

8. When we choose to serve the Lord, what does He cause to happen within us? Romans 6:6. “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”

9. What may we then consider ourselves to be? Romans 6:11. “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

“How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” “For he that is dead is freed from sin.” Romans 6:2, 7.

10. We put off the old man, which is what? Ephesians 4:22. “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;”

“Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe.” Romans 3:22.

13. We are then made what? Romans 5:19. “For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous.”

14. How much does it cost to be righteous? Romans 5:18. “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of One the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.”

15. Receiving this gift, we become filled with what? Ephesians 3:19. “And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.”

16. We are then partakers of what? 2 Peter 1:4. “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

17. After this happens, what is our connection to the sinful habits that once enslaved us? 2 Peter 1:4. “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

18. How is a person’s life different after being set free from the bondage of sin? 1 Peter 4:2. “That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.”

“For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries.” 1 Peter 4:3.

19. How else does Paul emphasize the new condition of the believer 19. How else does Paul emphasize the new condition of the believer? Romans 6:22. “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.”

20. How should this new condition affect our future plans? Romans 13:14. “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”

“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God.” Romans 6:12, 13.

21. Upon what requirement may we continue to receive Christ’s power 21. Upon what requirement may we continue to receive Christ’s power? Hebrews 3:14. “For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;”

“He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.

27. How may we obtain the transforming gift of God’s righteousness 27. How may we obtain the transforming gift of God’s righteousness? Matthew 7:7. “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”

28. After asking for it, what is the next step that we are to take 28. After asking for it, what is the next step that we are to take? Romans 6:13. “Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.”

“For as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.” Romans 6:19.
