What is the Globe? Performing arts theater William Shakespeare made the theater world famous. It has become one of the four major theaters in London. Located in London

Why was the original globe theatre built? James Burbage had obtained a lease and permission to build first theater. Originally called 'The Theatre' in Shoreditch, London. The Puritan owner, Giles Allen was against ‘The Theatre’ and the Lord Chamberlain's Company acting troupe - which included William Shakespeare. Burbage opened negotiations to re-new the lease of ‘The Theatre' but these all failed which is the reason why the Globe Theatre was built.

Appearance 3 Stories High! Octagon shape Diameter: Approximately 300 feet! Seats up to 3000 spectators Stage is 40 feet wide, 28 feet wide.

History Build in London in Built by James Burbage. Located in Shoreditch. Burned then in Rebuilt in 1614.

Fun Facts Plays were always performed in the Summer, then transferred to indoor play houses in the Winter. Flyers would be put out on days of plays to advertise the next show being performed. Color coding would be used to explain the type of show being performed. The globe often attracted young people to come to shows. Most mail actors died do to lead poisoning from their make up.
