Christmas Day

and we have seen his glory. GOD WELCOMES US To us a child is born! To us a Son is given! The Word became flesh and dwelt among us: and we have seen his glory. From the fullness of his grace we have received one blessing after another.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Confession Friends in Christ, let us confess our sins to God our Father, because Jesus Christ came to earth as a human being for us, to take away our sins.

Lord God, our heavenly Father, I confess that I have sinned against you, not only in my words and actions, but also in my secret thoughts and desires which I cannot fully know or understand, but which you know completely.

I am sorry that I have displeased you, and repent of the evil I have done. For the sake of your dear Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, have mercy on me, forgive my sins, and graciously help me in my weakness. Amen.

Assurance of forgiveness

We sing a hymn/carol

Lord have mercy Lord, have mercy. Let us call on Jesus, our incarnate Lord, and ask him to help us.   Lord Jesus Christ, born in Bethlehem, hear our prayer and save us. Lord, have mercy.

Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Lord Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, hear our prayer and help us. Christ, have mercy. Lord Jesus Christ, born for us, hear our prayer and give us peace. Lord, have mercy.

and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased. Glory to God Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased.

Hark! The herald angels sing Glory to the new-born King; Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled. Joyful, all ye nations, rise, join the triumph of the skies; with the angelic host proclaim: Christ is born in Bethlehem.   Hark! the herald angels sing glory to the new-born King.

Christ, by highest heaven adored, Christ, the everlasting Lord, Late in time behold him come, offspring of a virgin’s womb. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; Hail, the incarnate Deity, pleased as man with man to dwell, Jesus, our Immanuel: Hark! the herald angels sing glory to the new-born King.

Hail, the heaven-born Prince of peace! Hail, the sun of righteousness! Light and life to all he brings, risen with healing in his wings. Mild he lays his glory by, born that we no more may die, born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth: Hark! the herald angels sing glory to the new-born King.

The Lord be with you And also with you. Let us pray.

Almighty God, you have given us your only Son to take our nature upon himself, and to be born of a pure virgin. As we have been born again and adopted as your children by grace, so renew us daily by your Holy Spirit. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

We listen to the address

We confess our faith We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

We sing a hymn/carol as our offering is received GOD RECEIVES OUR OFFERING   We sing a hymn/carol as our offering is received

Offertory (sung) Dear Christ-child, we bring our own offering to you; we give you our hearts; keep them loving and true. O let them be holy, and make us all one with you, our dear Saviour, and God’s only Son.

We pray for ourselves and the world Prayer response: Lord Jesus: hear our prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Christ the Son of God give you joy and peace by his presence with you. The Lord bless us and keep us. The Lord make his face shine on us and be gracious to us. The Lord look upon us with favour, and give us peace. Amen.
