Performance Rating Scale Developing – Demonstrated adequate growth but did not demonstrate competence on standard(s) of performance. In ISS, we say this is what we KNOW. Proficient – Demonstrated basic competence on standard(s) for performance. In ISS, we say this is what we DO. Accomplished – Exceeded basic competence on standard(s) of performance most of the time. In ISS, we say this is what we LIVE.

Distinguished – Consistently and significantly exceeded basic competence on standard(s) of performance. In ISS, we say this is what we SHARE with others outside of our own little corner. Not Demonstrated – Did not demonstrate competence on, or adequate growth toward, achieving standard(s) of performance.

What are the Teacher Responsibilities: Know and understand the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards. Example: New Essential Standards in 2012-2013 Understand the North Carolina Teacher Evaluation Process. There have been some recent changes in the number of evaluations per year and Standards that are observed. Prepare for and fully participate in each component of the evaluation process.

Gather data, artifacts, evidence to support performance in relation to standards and progress in attaining goals. Example: Evidence Notebook, Photos, DVD’s, CD’s, Website posts, newsletter, assessment…etc. Develop and implement strategies to improve personal performance/attain goals in areas identified individually or collaboratively identified. Example: PDP, Professional Learning Community, NAfME, research….etc.

What is on the Horizon? 6th Standard Update Teacher Effectiveness: Effective this school year, the State Board of Education has added a new standard to the Teacher Evaluation Instrument. For the 2011-12 school year, there will be no state-mandated consequences for teachers based on their sixth standard rating, but principals must discuss the standard with each teacher as part of the evaluation process.

Only teachers with three or more years of data will receive a formal rating on the sixth standard; all other teachers will have student data populated in the sixth standard, but no formal rating. A teacher’s rating on the sixth standard will be based on whether a teacher’s students meet growth expectations, exceed growth expectations, or fail to meet growth expectations. An average of three years of student growth information will be used to determine the teacher’s rating.
