INVESTIGATIVE REPORT EPSON ALEX GOASLIND ENGLISH 2010 PROFESSOR PAUL ANDERSON MARCH 11, 2015

CORPORATION  An association of individuals, created by law or under authority of law, having a continuous existence independent of the existences of its members, and powers and liabilities distinct from those of its members.  Any group of persons united or reg arded as united in one body.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE  A nonresidential junior college established to serve a specific community and typically supported in part by local government funds.

SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SOUTH CITY CAMPUS  The SLCC South City Campus is just one of 8 campuses belonging to the community college.  SLCC has a great history for helping students receive a low cost college education for a 2 year degree; and helping them to move on to bigger and greater things.  The South City Campus is a smaller scale campus allowing students to receive a better hand on learning experience.  The teacher to student ratio at SLCC is 1:20.

EPSON

EPSON IS…  A LEADER: A leading manufacturer in the printer, professional imaging, projector, scanner, systems devices, and factory automation categories.  AN INNOVATOR: Delivering high performance products, services and solutions that exceed our customers’ expectations.  A PARTNER: Going the extra mile to build long lasting relationships with our end users, our co-workers, and our accounts.

HISTORY OF EPSON  Epson has a long history starting all the way back in May 1942, in Nagano, Japan where the corporation was established.  Epson grew over the years with many different contributions such as computers, radios, watches etc. until January 1989 Epson came out with their first projector, and things really took off for the corporation.  They continue coming out with new state of the art technology year after year “wowing” the public.

ISSUE/PROBLEM  Why do we find mostly Epson products at SLCC?  We find a wide range of products produced by Epson at all of Salt Lake Community Colleges Campus’ ranging anywhere from projectors to printers even to desktop document cameras.  How come the Community College chooses to uses this brand? Is there some sort of contract or agreement between the corporation and SLCC?

EPSON AT SLCC  Epson provides a comprehensive suite of products, resources and special pricing for education markets, including both K-12 and Higher Education. Plus, with our exceptional support programs and 3-year warranty coverage on projectors, you and your staff can stay focused on what matters most.productsresourcespricingsupport  For years Epson products have provided higher education institutions with the resources they need to guide their students into the future. Epson is proud to be a part of your quest for the right learning tools. Allow us to make your search for affordable pricing and the perfect product, an easy one.productspricing

EPSON AT SLCC  Epson provides phenomenal pricing for not only early education but also for higher education such as community colleges and universities. Along with providing products, they offer product support saying “you and your staff can stay focused on what matters most.”  As for offering scholarships or financial aid for students at specific institutions there are certain institutions that have contracts and can receive scholarships, but specifically at SLCC there is not that option. But they do help the institution keep on track so that we can have a better education using up to date technology.

VOICES AT SLCC  “I’ve never really paid attention to the equipment used at school, but I guess if it saves the school money then that’s good.” –Tanner Sirstins  “I don’t really care what projectors or printers SLCC uses, but if they are saving money on it then why do we still have to pay so much money for tuition?” –Maddie Nielson  “Now that I think about it, the projectors they use have always been pretty nice quality, and it’s really nice to be able to see things as a class instead of on individual computers like it used to be.” –Nicole Rockwood

APPENDIX A SURVEY 1: Do you use school projectors and printers often? 2: Do you like the quality of projectors and printers that SLCC has to offer? 3: What do you think about SLCC receiving a discounted price on EPSON products because they are a school?
