Personal computers AdvantagesDisadvantages Prices from very low to very high Fast Powerful Easy to repair Long lasting Some parts can be upgraded Many ports Use too much space Ugly 2 separate parts Can’t be easy transported

Traits of someone who should buy a PC? Space is not a problem. Maximum speed and power – 3D creation, video edition or videogames. Screen size matters, or more than one screen are required. Higher storage capacity required (over 2 TB) A fast powerful computer for a reasonable price. Sound capabilities are important like having a home theatre.

All-in-one computers AdvantagesDisadvantages Use less space and electricity Most of the times big screens They may have touch screens and WiFi Better designs, more aesthetic. Long lasting As powerful as medium and some high end PCs Impossible to upgrade Very difficult to repair (more expensive) More expensive than PC with the same technical specs. Not that many ports to connect I/O devices Can’t be easily transported

Traits of someone who should buy an All-in-one Space is an issue. Good performance at good price. Wants a PC with WiFi capabilities Wants a PC with touch screen capabilities. Is worried about how his computer is going to like in his house.

Laptops AdvantagesDisadvantages Use less space and electricity than PCs and All-in-One Can be carried easily everywhere You go. Normally specs will be lower than those of a PC. Medium lasting as accidents may occur. Integrated battery, web cam, microphone and speakers. Always WiFi and sometimes Blue tooth Impossible to upgrade or expand More expensive than PC with the same technical specs. Not that many ports to connect I/O devices. Price will be higher compared to a PC with same specs. Smaller screens. 17’ max.

Traits of someone who should buy a laptop. Needs a mobile device with PC characteristics. Laptops are PC replacements, not complements. Needs a good a fairly big storage device. Uses optical devices and needs ports on the go. Weight is not an issue. It has access to electricity in periods under 4 hours. Use of a medium size screen

Net books AdvantagesDisadvantages Small form factor. Very cheap Integrated webcam and WiFi Very lightweight Battery Available with open source OS. Impossible to upgrade or expand Is complex to use such a small keyboard and touchpad. Very low specs making them slow. Almost no ports included. 10.1’ screen.

Traits of someone who should buy a netbook? Price matters - Cheapest of them all. Wants to have portability and prefers weight over processing power and screen. Wants to have portability and prefers a physical keyboard over touch screens. Small form factor keyboard is not an issue. Is thinking to replace it in two years. Speed may not an issue at all.

Ultra light laptops AdvantagesDisadvantages Lightest of them all. Laptops and netbooks. They use SSDs Battery and WiFi included Slimest of them all. Laptops and netbooks. Impossible to upgrade or expand Slower than normal laptops or very expensive. No optical disc unit. (CD/DVD) Just some few ports (2 or 3) Not that much storage capacity. Low specs compared to fast laptops or PCs

Traits of someone who should buy an ultra light laptop? Weight is all that matters. Over speed and performance Over storage capabilities. Over screen and keyboard size. Money is not an issue. Needs full access to full programs Doesn’t wants or dislikes touch screens.

Tablets AdvantagesDisadvantages Very light mobile device Always on Last long battery (over 7 hrs) WiFi and 3G capable Relatively cheap Very limited amount of malicious programs. Small SSD (64Gb max) Cant’ be upgraded or expanded. No optical unit (CD/DVD) Few ports or none at all.

Traits of someone who should buy a tablet? Portability: Weight, size, Internet connection. Fastest access to the web. Doesn’t need to use full pc programs. Isn’t an issue to use a different O.S. Someone who needs long lasting battery. Doesn’t hates touch screens. Doesn’t needs big storage capabilities (64 Gb)
