Vestigial organs Prepared by Ed van Ouwerkerk campus staff at Iowa State University campus Christian Worldview Development Series on Creation-Evolution-Science and the Bible

Vestigial organs This is the way how evolutionists see vestigial organs (3-minute video clip)vestigial organs This is what Wikipedia says about those organs: The concept of vestigiality applies to genetically determined structures or attributes that have apparently lost most or all of its ancestral function in a given species. Assessment of the vestigial status must generally rely on comparison with homologous features in related species. The emergence of vestigiality occurs by normal evolutionary processes, typically by loss of function of a feature that is no longer subject to positive selection pressures when it loses its value in a changing environment. More urgently the feature may be selected against when its function becomes definitely harmful. Typical examples of both types occur in the loss of flying capability in island-dwelling species.

1. Can you name any organs that are claimed to be vestigial? 2. If man was created by God, could there be useless remnants of organs in the human body? Watch the 6-minute DVD clip by Dr. David MentonDr. David Menton (The New Answer DVD 3: Vestigial organs – evidence of evolution?) 3. How is Darwin related to the discussion of vestigial organs? 4. How many vestigial organs have been claimed by evolutionists? 6. What important function does the coccyx (tail bone) perform? 5. How has the understanding of the appendix and its function changed over time?
