Iditarod By Sam O.

Introduction The Iditarod is a very famous dog sled race that is also called The Last Great Race On Earth. Many people enter and try to win. People try to not scratch but rarely they don’t.

Mushers Mushers are very important. My musher is Mitch Seavey. He has won many Iditarod races and last year he was awarded with oldest musher to race in the Iditarod.

Dogs Some people say that the dogs in the Iditarod are not just ‘’dogs’’. But they are certain types like the Siberian huskies and Alaskan Malamutes and are a big part of the race. When the Mushers take off the average amount of dogs per team is 16.

The Routes There are 2 routes. The two routes are northern and southern. There are 27 checkpoints in the southern route and 26 in the northern. On even years they do the northern route.

Awards As you know there are rewards that you can win in the Iditarod. If you are the last musher to cross the finish line you win the Red Lantern Award. Otherwise, you win 1,000 dollars. If you come in first you get to have a thing called a ring on on your lead dogs neck. You still get a prize if you scratch but you only get 500 dollars. I know that’s a lot but compared to 1,000 if you were choosy you would pick 1,000.

Webliography I bet you are wondering if I just knew all that information well I did not I got most of my information from Iditarod. com it has a lot of use full information it tells you every thing that you need to know. hmGNTKU4ApLxXNyoA?p=iditarod+2014&fr=aaplw&fr2=piv- web
