Question What are consumers doing to promote the use of alternate fuels such as hydrogen fuel cells? What are they doing to hinder their use?

Promotion The hydrogen fuel cell has attracted the attention of the human eye. One way costumers are promoting the use of fuel cells is proposing directives. Policy efforts are also being made by the government along with funding. In 2007, they were being promoted as companies started to commercially sell them. These are a few examples of how the use of hydrogen fuel cells are being promoted.

Directives

Policies The 2013 Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Global Policies Update states that, “Governments around the globe are supporting development and commercialization of hydrogen and fuel cells technologies with policies and incentives.”

Commercializing Companies such as Toyota are supporters of the promotion of hydrogen fuel cells. California is one of a few states in favor of a future with the hydrogen fuel cell.

Funding The government is helping to fund the hydrogen fuel cell. The funding allows further research as well as demonstrations of fuel cell materials. This graph shows the request for funding of the hydrogen fuel cell from congress.

Hindering Not everyone is thrilled with the idea of a future that involves the hydrogen fuel cell. People who are not in favor of this new step into the future are finding ways to hinder the use of this fuel cell.

Ways of Hindrance People make arguments against alternative fuels as well. One of the stronger arguments is the cost of transferring our current fuel source to a more efficient one. It costs money to do this as well as maintaining it. The maintenance requires higher levels of education and knowledge on the subject of engineering.
