PV School has established a good relationship with parents over the years. MEAP main focus at our school was to raise level 4 to 5+ through improving pupils literacy.

Strategies used to involve parents. 1.Launched MEAP - Invited parents to a presentation to show work and SATs Qs at NC levels 4 and 5. Presentation conducted in English, Mirpuri, Pusthu, Somali and Urdu to meet needs of the parents. Q&A session with parents at the end. Collected up-to-date Mobile & Home telephone numbers.

2 Workshop held the following week for parents and pupils to allow them to experience teaching at levels 4 and 5. Parents also given an insight into the content and responses required to achieve a Level 5+. Parents and pupils were notified of workshop sessions, HW and reading reminders.

3 Parents received a text message and an automated phone call message every evening to remind parents to read with their child for 30 minutes. Messages were altered twice per week. After Easter messages reduced to 2 per week.

Rewards for attending MEAP sessions. A Dictionary for one term’s attendance A visit to Waterstones book shop and a voucher for £15 for completion of sessions.

Results Year 8 KS3 Maths SATs 75% of pupils from MEAP group achieved higher than predicted. 60% of pupils gained a Level 5+ in their SATs exams.

Results Year 9 KS3 English SATs 70% of pupils attained a Level 5+ Year 9 GCSE Maths Module 1 65% of pupils attained C+

Currently Launching sessions with new cohort of pupils within Key Stage 4. Continuing working with parents as their support is vital for their success. Working with local community to raise awareness of literacy. Researching into different groups of ethnicity within the MEAP cohort to see if there are any trends.
