9 of 24 Each paragraph has four sentences with many words and even more letters. If we built a pyramid, it may look like the one in the next slide. There are fewer words as you go up the pyramid but more and more as you do down. At the top is only one word: Home. Below it are three words. Below those are many words and even more letters. 12 of 24 Let’s apply the rules and learn the Home story. Before we do, let us imagine that your capacity is 3, and you don’t know the meaning of these words: house, small, green, mother, father, and dogs. Now you can apply the rules: CPC. 13 of Headings. The story has three parts or paragraphs, each with a heading: HOME: house, mother, and father. Think HOME and see if you can remember house, mother, and father. 14 of House Paragraph. The House paragraph is about a house: house, small, and green. Think House and see if you can remember house, small, and green, or My house is small and green. Another way is to “picture” a small, green house (e.g., imagine that you are watching TV) as in in the next slide. If you can, you have chunked everything together for that paragraph into one thing. 19 of 24 The CPC Way of Studying However, if you remember the pictures, you can see that each picture contains all the information in the previous picture. 20 of 24 The CPC Way of Studying Now, the only word that you have to remembers is HOME and the last picture. That word and picture help you remember the headings: House, mother, father. House, in turn, helps you think of house, small, green: That is my home. It is small. It is green, or My house is small and green. You can remember the other paragraphs of the story in this same way.
