Community Empowerment (Scotland) Bill

Purpose To provide information and give the chance to ask questions – Roots – Timetable – Very brief overview of Content – Process

Roots Manifesto Commitment - To make it easier for communities to take over unused and underused public sector assets and to introduce measures to help communities deal more effectively with vacant and unused property in their areas. Christie Commission – strengthen the community voice in planning and delivering services

Timetable 3 years of work, 2 large consultations Introduced to Parliament 11 th June 2014 Estimated to take approx. one year through Parliament

Aims The Bill provides a framework which aims to: – Empower community bodies through the ownership of land and buildings – Strengthen community voices in the decisions that matter to them – Improve the process of community planning
