Characteristics of Epic Poems
Epic Characteristic #1 The setting is broad (covering many places) and often includes supernatural realms
Epic Characteristic #2 There is usually an invocation, or a request to a higher power for help or inspiration in telling the tale
Epic Characteristic #3 The poem usually begins “in medias res” and then flashes back “In medias res” – in the middle of things
