SIP Interoperability Testing  Answering the Call to Ensure Reliability, Flexibility and Interoperability  Ron Bleakney Director of Partner Programs VegaStream

Opening the Floodgates  SIP enables:  A level playing field among equipment vendors  Greater customer choice in terms of features and functionality  Clear direction for the industry to leverage upon

The Problem is the Secret Sauce  SIP is the great equalizer among technology vendors  As companies create competitive differentiation, standard playing catch-up to innovation

The Limits of SIP  SIP does not do everything…yet  SIP does not hold all the answers for:  Security (end to end, link layer)  IMS  Not all implementations of SIP are created equal  Incumbent vendors still dragging their feet to update legacy products  Some product manufactures may trade time-to-market for product quality and readiness

SIP Does Not Replace Effective Partnership  SIP opened the door for market entry (prod/ comp)  But SIP does not mean that all products are created equal  Ease of configuration not to be assumed (key to smooth deployment) Beware Garage-born Products!

Where SIP Interoperability Matters  At the network interconnection point  At the network termination point  At the end client connection point

Where Does SIP Go Next? (and why quality matters! Hosted Voice SMS Services IM Chat IP ConvergenceIP TV

Case Study – Virginia Regional Medical Center

Key Industry Events Streamline Interoperability  SIPfoundry SFTF  Test framework for SIP interoperability  SIP Forum SIPit events  Live interoperability test events  VoIP Developers Confernce  Interactive, development focused conference

Summary  SIP provides the foundation to bridge networks  SIP is a trustworthy path moving forward  SIP will continue to evolve to tackle outstanding industry issues and needs  Security  IMS  SIP does not replace partnership, so buyer beware!
