Kinesthetic Learner A person that learns through doing or participating in an example in order to obtain concepts, data, and other information. Companies (architectural, engineering, and other scientific : may employ you to be apart of the design team. Firms (management consulting): may employ you to design on a contract basis. 9

What are some titles for Urban planners? Depending on your speciality (agriculture, architecture, physical science, engineering) in urban planning, some titles are: 1.Landscape Architects (green spaces, private contracts) 2.Surveyors (for the city, they measure land) 3.Urban and Regional Planners (create cities) 4.Assistant planner urban forestry (manage green space) 10

Employment Requirements- Highlights A bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning, geography, architecture, engineering or a related discipline is required A master's degree in one of these disciplines may be required Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners is usually required Membership in a provincial planning institute may be required in some provinces 11

Useful Courses Agriculture Engineering Physical science Geography Architecture (sketching courses for plan drafts) History By choosing one of these, will lead you to a different area of urban planning. 12

Useful Experiences in Preparing for Urban Planning Travel- to see how different cites are organized, (e.g. recreational, residential, commercial and institutional.) Internship or shadowing day (e.g. bring your kind to work day)- see how people in urban planning deal with different needs, create ideas, presentations, reports and meeting deadlines. Tours- to tour different cultural history museums (e.g. the ROM) 13

Work Environment Urban planners work for the government or for consulting companies. Most of their work is done in an office environment using computers, phones, and possibly sketching materials. Visit and examine the areas of land and neighbourhoods they are working with, travelling on site. A planner's work is often done in cooperation with a team of other community experts and officials. Hours are full time during the week, Meetings and extra work are sometimes done on evenings and weekends. 14

Main Duties- What do Urban Planners do? Collects research on factors affecting land use Consult with municipal, provincial and federal authorities to develop land use plans Prepare land development plans for roads, parks and other land uses Prepare plans for environmental protection Present plans to authorities and hold public meetings to present plans 15

Now in 2015 there are about 129, 913 job opportunities and by 2020 there will be 7,011 more job opportunities in Urban Planning

Conclusion What I learned is that being an Urban planner is a broad title, there are many areas to specialize in. So far the one I am interested in being is an Urban and Regional Planner. 17 Thank you
