CIM Users Group Intro and Benefits Ralph Mackiewicz Chair, Marketing Subcommittee UCA International Users Group October 2007 Austin, TX

Mission The CIM Users Group is dedicated to managing and communicating issues concerning the TC57 IEC and standards and to serving as the primary means for developing consensus and consistency across the industry.

CIMug Activities Provide liaison with other standards groups and assess the impact of other standards on the form, scope and content of the CIM Provide a central Repository for CIM issues, models, messages, and expertise Promote the CIM, GID and other IEC TC57 standards Provide a single point of contact for CIM Model Management and issue resolution. Provide awareness of CIM products and implementations Provide a Help Desk

Benefits of CIM Based Integration Enables exchange of power system models for transmission system coordination and control (ISO ↔ Utility, etc.). Models provides meaning and context to data reducing proprietary and arcane tag based references. Models contain configuration data enabling a reduction in configuration and maintenance efforts. CIM, GID, and integration bus technologies reduces complexity and costs. Standardized services enable independent interoperable application and adapter development (i.e. “plug-n-play”). Utilizes common approach across many industries. But Why Join the CIM Users Group?

Benefits of Membership Shorten learning curve with access to educational materials and experts Gain timely access to information on standards activities Gain valuable insight from peers and benefit from sharing/accessing common solutions Support and participate in a community effort to establish useful standards for our industry Make your company’s leadership visible in the industry
