POLYGONS 2D SHAPES

A Polygon is a closed figure made by joining line segments.  Which of the following figures is a polygon? A B C Why?

The answer is B  Because it’s a close figure and all the sides are line segments. sides

In a regular polygon the sides are all the same length and the angles are all the same.  Which of the following polygons is a regular one? A B C  Why?

The answer is C  Because all the sides and angles are the same size.

Vertex: is the point where two sides of a polygon intersect. (Corners) Angle is the space between two sides Vertex

Types of angles obtuse angle acute angle right angle The FULL CIRCLE forms a 360 degree angle

Triangle: is a three-sided polygon. The sum of the angles of a triangle is 180 degrees

Equilateral triangle All the sides are the same length and all the angles are equal.

Isosceles triangle Two sides are the same length and two angles are equal

Scalene triangle All the sides and angles are differents.

Quadrilateral: a four-sided polygon. The sum of the angles of a quadrilateral is 360 degrees

Four-sided polygon having all right angles RectangleSquare What is the difference?

Pentagon : five-sided polygon Regular pentagon All five sides are the same length and all five angles are equal.
