Homo- same Graph- writing Homographs – two words that are spelled the same way but have different meanings.

Homonyms (“same name”) ◦Sound the same/spelled the same/different meaning  Fair  Wave  Well

Use these words in a sentence: ◦Tear ◦Wind ◦Close Different meanings, different pronunciation.

Stress Homographs You need to read the sentence to know how to pronounce most homographs. Ex: ◦The convict escaped from his jail cell. ◦The prosecutor is hoping to convict the suspected robber.
