RATIONALE FOR CHANGES Skills obtained by VTI’s graduates are not aligned with the needs of the industry. The present system is already out of phase and are slow to respond to rapid changes in modern day competitive economy. Change the public’s negative impression of vocational and technical education. To address the needs of the less academically inclined students.
AREAS OF CHANGE DTE, changing to Institute of Brunei Technical education (IBTE). Curriculum, to evolve into competency-based training. Offering more apprenticeship courses. Better job progression pathways. Improved infrastructure. Attractive career pathways for instructors.
COLLABORATION WITH INDUSTRY EICF Programmes Due to immediate demands made by the oil and gas industry. Collaboration between DTE and the Brunei Shell Petroleum Joint Venture (BSPJV), with the support of the Energy Department at the Prime Minister’s Office (EDPMO). Collaboration in terms of: Development of curriculum Delivering the lesson (Subject Matter Expert) Competency Based Assessment 70% hands on and 30% theory Emplyability is 100% for ISQ programme
