OBJECTIVE: TO DETERMINE THE SETS OF NUMBERS TO WHICH A GIVEN NUMBER BELONGS. TO USE THE PROPERTIES OF REAL NUMBERS TO SIMPLIFY EXPRESSION. Properties of Real Numbers

Rational and Irrational Numbers

Rational Numbers Whole Numbers – consists of all positive whole numbers including zero.  {0, 1, 2, 3, 4}  Number Set – consists of a specific group of numbers listed from least to greatest.  Example: {-1, 3, 5, 8}

Rational Numbers Integers: consists of all positive and negative whole numbers. (including zero)  Example: {…-2, -1, 0, 1…} Natural Numbers: also known as “counting numbers”, are all positive whole numbers greater than zero  Example: {1, 2, 3, 4…}
