Idaho Certification VS Federal HQT An Idaho Certificate/Endorsement does not always mean federal HQT status!

State Requirements vs. Federal Requirements State Appropriate certification or endorsement in content area of assignment Federal HOUSSE PRAXIS II NBPTS statusAlternate Route Advanced degree in content area

HQT Paths HQT is established by: Verifiable major (minimum 30 credits) in content area Masters in content area NBPTS Certification in content area Praxis II Content Test successfully passed Verifiable HOUSSE rubric completed prior to June 30, 2008 As of June 30, 2008, HOUSSE was no longer available EXCEPT in certain cases pertaining to Special Ed or Rural Districts

100% HQT, or……… ~ Focus on using Title IIA funds for assisting teachers to this end. Possible loss of state funding ~ Loss of funding: Complete alignment between state funding and federal HQT guidelines established (No HQT = No $$$)

Alternate Route to Endorsement Teachers who will be/are teaching in a content area for which they do not currently hold an endorsement may be eligible Endorsements added via: – Praxis II plus supervised teaching; or – Praxis II, Content Pedagogy Class, supervised teaching

What About Paraprofessionals? NCLB paraprofessionals providing instructional support in Title I targeted assistance and Schoolwide programs must meet NCLB requirements: –An associate’s degree, or –Two years of college (32 semester credits), or –Pass the Parapro Assessment Exam IDEA special education paraprofessionals must meet above requirements if providing instructional support in Title I Schoolwide programs. Idaho Requirement: All paraprofessionals must meet Idaho Standards and Competencies.
