CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN INDIA Dr. Urmila Moon

Objectives of the study: 1.To study the CSR status in India. 2.To understand the meaning and various models of CSR. 3.To study the policies governing CSR in India. 4.To study the challenges faced by CSR in India. 5.To make suggestions for accelerating CSR initiatives.

Statement of scientific question addressed: CSR Controversy A case for CSR in SMEs Policy initiatives CSR initiatives Challenges

Research Methodology: Exploratory research. Secondary data Sources: Journals, magazines, articles and media reports.

Scientific findings Radical change in the concept of CSR. Increased awareness. Encourage SME involvement in CSR. Policy support increases CSR activities of PSUs.

Challenges faced Less budget allocations. Lack of Professionalism. Limited role of Media. Absence of statutory guidelines.

Suggestions Network of activities –consortium. Training, conferences and seminars could be organized. Strong budgetary support. Review existing policies.

Conclusion Corporate sustainability is an evolving process and not an end. Need for a strong and innovative CSR strategy.
