Presentation transcript:

Tonacliffe Primary School’s Walk To School Initiative Improving Physical Activity

In December 2012, before the Walk To School initiative started 31.5% of children walked to school. When the initiative was put in place, children were encouraged to walk to school through winning prizes. At the end of the summer term 69.2% of children walked to school. This meant that the amount of children walking to school improved by nearly 38% and physical activity at Tonacliffe improved! Well done everyone! Mrs Sutcliffe

What Children Said About Walking To School: KS1 “It makes us healthy!” “It is good exercise” “I see my friends so I like it.” “I live far away so I parked at the bottom of the hill and walked up.” KS2 “It will be safer at school if lots of people carry on walking because there will be less cars, and less pollution” “Walking up the hill was hard and I could feel my heart beating! That shows it is good exercise!”
