Lesson 5 Jews and Gentiles Reconciled Into One Body Eph. 2:11-22 Ephesians Lesson 5 Jews and Gentiles Reconciled Into One Body Eph. 2:11-22

Saved By Grace Through Faith Dead in your trespasses and sins Eph. 2:1-3 By grace you have been saved Eph. 2:4-7 For by grace you have been saved through faith Eph. 2:8-10

Introduction In the previous lesson, Paul focused on salvation as it relates to individuals who respond to God’s grace by obedient faith Now, he focuses on how God has brought Jews and Gentiles together in one body, Jesus’ church, through the cross The great mystery now revealed, God has made Jews and Gentiles fellow heirs in Christ

Introduction For the Jews to appreciate Christ and accept the Gentiles as fellow heirs, they had to accept that the Law of Moses was given to lead them to Christ, the Savior For the Gentiles to appreciate Christ, they needed to understand how hopeless their condition was without Him

Jews and Gentiles Reconciled Into One Body Gentiles’ hopeless condition without Christ Eph. 2:11-12 Through Christ God reconciled Jews and Gentiles into one body Eph. 2:13-18 Jews and Gentiles now fellow citizens in the household of God Eph. 2:19-22

Gentiles’ Hopeless Condition Without Christ Eph 2:11 Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called "Uncircumcision" by the so-called "Circumcision," which is performed in the flesh by human hands-- Eph 2:12 remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

Gentiles’ Hopeless Condition Without Christ 1Th 1:9 For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God, 1Th 1:10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.

Through Christ God Reconciled Jews And Gentiles Into One Body Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Eph 2:14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,

Through Christ God Reconciled Jews And Gentiles Into One Body Eph 2:15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, Eph 2:16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.

Through Christ God Reconciled Jews And Gentiles Into One Body Eph 2:17 AND HE CAME AND PREACHED PEACE TO YOU WHO WERE FAR AWAY, AND PEACE TO THOSE WHO WERE NEAR; Eph 2:18 for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.

Jesus’ Death Took Away The Old Covenant And Established The New Mat 26:28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.

Jesus’ Death Took Away The Old Covenant And Established The New Heb 9:15 For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

Jesus’ Death Took Away The Old Covenant And Established The New Heb 9:16 For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it. Heb 9:17 For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives. Heb 10:9 then He said, "BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL." He takes away the first in order to establish the second.

Jesus’ Death Took Away The Old Covenant And Established The New Gal 3:12 However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, "HE WHO PRACTICES THEM SHALL LIVE BY THEM." Gal 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us--for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE"--

Jesus’ Death Took Away The Old Covenant And Established The New Gal 3:14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Gal 3:16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ.

Jews And Gentiles Brought Into One Body Gal 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Jews And Gentiles Brought Into One Body 1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. Col 1:18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.

Same Gospel To Be Preached To Both Jews And Gentiles Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Rom 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."

Seeking Justification By The Law Severs Us From Christ Gal 5:3 And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law. Gal 5:4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

Jews And Gentiles Now Fellow Citizens In The Household Of God Eph 2:19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, Eph 2:20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone,

Jews And Gentiles Now Fellow Citizens In The Household Of God Eph 2:21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, Eph 2:22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

Jews And Gentiles Now Fellow Citizens In The Household Of God Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.

Jews And Gentiles Now Fellow Citizens In The Household Of God 1Ti 3:14 I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you before long; 1Ti 3:15 but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

Jews And Gentiles Growing Into A Holy Temple of The Lord 1Pe 2:4 And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, 1Pe 2:5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Jews And Gentiles Growing Into A Holy Temple of The Lord 1Pe 2:6 For this is contained in Scripture: "BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED." 1Pe 2:7 This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone,"

Jews And Gentiles Growing Into A Holy Temple of The Lord 1Pe 2:8 and, "A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE"; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed.

Jews And Gentiles Growing Into A Holy Temple of The Lord 1Pe 2:9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

Jews And Gentiles Growing Into A Holy Temple of The Lord 1Pe 2:10 for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.

Jews And Gentiles Growing Into A Holy Temple of The Lord 1Co 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 1Co 3:17 If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.
