Useful Slides from Our First Meeting 3/23/10ProFF: First Meeting w/ Students10

(Tentative) Goals of ProFF Seek & succeed in a faculty position in a top research institution – Give you the tools to land your dream job – Give you the skills to become A top researcher in your community A top teacher in your classes A top mentor for your students A top colleague in your department A top citizen in your institution 3/23/10ProFF: First Meeting w/ Students11

Your Opinions: Course or Seminar? One 5-week summer session, 2 meetings per week, 2 hours per meeting A multi-day (3—5 days) workshop during the summer A two-day workshop during the summer A two-day workshop during Fall/Spring break A three credit hours course for one semester A one credit hour course for one semester A 0-credit hour, one semester-long seminar series with talks/panels once per week A 0-credit hour, one semester-long seminar series with talks/panels once per month /23/1012ProFF: First Meeting w/ Students

Your Opinion: Receiving Support In addition to your advisor(s) and Supervising Committee, rate your preference for having a faculty mentor outside UNL Would you be willing to spend a summer as an intern at another institution/research lab.? How important is it for you to receive professional editorial help when writing your papers? How willing are you to proofread the papers of others students in the ProFF group? Will you commit to attend a UNL grant writing workshop? Will you commit to attend a one-day seminar on Ethics? /23/1013ProFF: First Meeting w/ Students

Your Opinion: Experiencing the Job How would you like the opportunity to teach a 100 level course? How would you like the opportunity to TA a level course? How would you like the opportunity to help organizing a 900-level course in your area? How would value the experience of participating in the organization of the CSE Colloquium? How would you value learning about the CSE committees operations? Would you agree to 'mentor' (provide advice on studies and non-studies issues to) incoming students to CSE? /23/1014ProFF: First Meeting w/ Students
