Presentation transcript:

Today we are going to talk about Louis Pasteur.

Louis pasture (a French chemist) began studying microbes in He was working on the fermentation of vinegar. While in his studies, he noticed that certain microbes cause food to go bad. He discovered that heat can kill some of these microbes. Thanks to Pasteur, Milk is now heated to 160 degrease Fahrenheit for 15 seconds to kill microbes. The microbes in milk cause tuberculoses, which can be a deadly disease. This is how we got the word pasteurization.

Now Benita will give us a pointless example on pasteurization.

This is milk!

Thank you Benita.

Now back to learning.

Pasteur was asked to help the silk industry in Pasteur discovered a microbe that was infecting the silkworms and the leaves they ate. After the worms and their food were killed, the silk industry was fixed. Pasteur had an idea that microbes could cause infectious diseases that spread easily. This was the beginning of the germ theory of disease.

Now we are going to watch a quick video about Pasteur.
