There is a great need to go back to the Bible concerning the knowledge of God’s Word! We used to be known as “People of the Book”

By memorization I mean two very important things: 1.Memorizing Bible verses word for word. 2.Memorizing the central theme of the verse you want to memorize.

Purpose of lesson: Encourage members of the Body of Christ to be knowledgeable in the Scriptures. Encourage members to begin memorizing Bible verses. Show reasons why we must memorize Bible verses. Show practical principles on how to memorize Bible verses.

Reasons why we must memorize God’s Holy Word

Reason # 1 God commands us to be diligent students of His Word! 2 Peter 3:18; 2 Timothy 2;15; Colossians 3:16

Reason # 2 Memorizing the Scriptures will help us to be ready to teach the gospel to others! Mark 16:15; Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 1:17

Reason # 3 Memorizing the Scriptures will help us to be ready to refute error 1 Peter 3:15

Reason # 4 Memorizing the Scriptures will help us to not sin against God Psalm 119:9, 11; Matthew 4

Reason # 5 Memorizing the Scriptures will help us to not be destroyed Hosea 4:6; Isaiah 5:13

Reason # 6 Memorizing the Scriptures will help us to prepare our lessons more effectively (less time)

Reason # 7 Memorizing the Scriptures will help us to spend more time studying the Bible

PRINCIPLE # 1 You must pray to God so that He can help you stay encouraged as you memorize His Word! 1 Thessalonians 5:17; Colossians 4:2; Romans 12:12

PRINCIPLE # 2 You must have the right attitude towards the Scriptures! Psalm 119:97; Job 23:12

PRINCIPLE # 3 Begin memorizing those Bible verses you already know, but don’t know where they are found!

PRINCIPLE # 4 Memorize Bible verses by topics since this will increase your knowledge of God’s Word!

PRINCIPLE # 5 You must be willing to spend time memorizing Bible verses.

PRINCIPLE # 6 You must repeat on a daily basis those verses you memorize!

PRINCIPLE # 7 You must remember the blessings that memorization brings to your life!
