How Does Berne Work? Berne provides minimum standard of copyright protection Each country must include at least these minimum standards in Berne (and can go further) Each country has different “copyright philosophies” Slide Deck #24

Automatic Protection All Berne countries must automatically protect content Auto protection upon the creation of work – No registration – No markings (© not mandatory) Once you have automatic copyright protection in your own country, you have protection in all 167 countries that belong to Berne (called National Treatment) Slide Deck #25
