3 Berne Convention First multilateral convention for the protection of copyright: Adoption 1886, Stockholm 1967, Paris 1971 Ensures an international protection for works created in any country of the Berne Union. 163 Member Countries National treatment, minimum rights and absence of formalities

4 Berne Convention Economic Rights: reproduction or making copies, public performance, broadcasting or communication to the public, distribution, adaptation, translation of the work, droit de suite Moral Rights: Paternity and Integrity Limitations to the minimum rights: quotations, use for illustration for teaching purposes or for news reporting Duration: At least, life of the author plus 50 years after his death
