Video Conference Summary Currently 19 FNAL v/c room endpoints. Upgrades/relocations for 4 v/c rooms in queue. 2 new v/c rooms in queue. ECS scheduler cutover Jan 31, Plan for video streaming evaluation.

Video Conference Statistics (ISDN)

Video Conference Statistics (IP/H.323) Out of ~175 standing FNAL conference room meetings 30 are (or should be) point-to-point H.323. Meetings currently using ESnet Ad-Hoc: D0 Muon ID, D0-BID, D0/Dutch CDF DB CD/Sam BTeV RTeS, Dark Camera ?

Video Conference Statistics (VRVS) November 2003 VRVS Call Record Detail stats just released. Estimate 51 mtgs for total of 213 hours.

Video Conference Installations and Upgrades New systems installed within the last FY were: SiDet, WH8X (replacing WH12NW), PPD/D0, CDF/B02, PPD/EPP roll-about (latter two IP only). Upgrades for PPD/CMS Project Office v/c room completed in April. Video and audio upgrades to CDF/B02 Theater conference room completed in August. Installation of new gear in DAB3 conference room scheduled for January.

Video Conference Projects in Queue Upgrade audio in WH2NW (Directorate). Appoint WH2NE with video conf’g (Directorate). Appoint X-Gallery Huddle Conf. Room with video conf’g (Accelerator Division). Ongoing upgrades or equipment installations in existing rooms (FCC1, WH8X, etc).

Video Conference Scheduling ESnet DCS to ECS scheduler cutover Jan. 31. As DCS power user have joined ESnet et al in beta testing of ECS scheduler. Considerable consulting effort to on and off-site users regarding scheduler changes and ISDN to IP migration. ECS will not yet have schedulable IP multipoint capability, but we’ll use the features for notifying users of Ad- hoc bridge numbers. Lost official back-up Fermilab scheduling support in December.

Video Conference Investigations CMS Virtual Control Room Project, participants include Data Comm and PPD/CMS. At present we’re determining best v/c equipment for the testbed. Video Streaming for on-site video meetings. $0 requisition submitted for a 30 day trial of the video furnace streaming device. We plan on testing with CD, D0, CDF, BTeV, et al. Equipment needed estimated to be just under $25K.

Video Conference Equipment We’re currently using ESnet’s gatekeeper for H.323/IP video. As the number of on-site desktop IP video conference users increase we see a need for a H.323 gatekeeper at Fermilab. Hardware and software for g/k ~$21K and operational support is significant.
