Objectives Identify and discuss personal values and their effect on nursing care. Discuss the steps in processing an ethical dilemma. Describe the role of an RN in completion of an incident report. Discuss ways registered nurses can reduce the risk of litigation for professional malpractice. Discuss how nursing practice relates to the following legal terms: assault and battery malpractice superior tort false imprisonment negligence slander libel respondeat standard of care

Pre-Lecture Assignment Read Chapter 22 and Chapter 23 in Potter & Perry Fundamentals of Nursing book. Read Chapter 18 in Claywell LPN to RN Transitions book. View the powerpoint presentation prior to attending class. The presentation includes audio, so you will need to make time to view/listen to the lecture. A computer with speakers is required to listen to the audio lecture. Complete the discussion board – Previous Practice Experience/Legal & Ethical located on blackboard prior to attending class Come to class prepared to discuss and participate!
