Focus on

Can you spell each word correctly ?

Do you know the definition of each word?

Essential Question How are geometric shapes identified?

There are many different geometric shapes.

circle circle – a shape that is round.

square square- a rectangle whose four sides are of equal length.

triangle triangle- a three- sided polygon

rectangle rectangle- a shape with four sides. Each side of the shape is the same length as the side opposite it.

cone cone – a shape whose base is a circle and whose sides taper up to a point.

cylinder cylinder – a solid bound by a cylindrical surface and two parallel bases

hexagon hexagon- a shape with six sides.

octagon octagon – a figure having eight sides and eight angles.

pentagon pentagon- a shape with five sides with five angles inside of it.

equilateral triangle equilateral triangle- a triangle with equal sides and equal angles.

isosceles triangle isosceles triangle- a triangle which has two sides exactly the same length.

scalene triangle scalene triangle- a triangle with no equal sides or angles.

sphere sphere – a solid figure that has the shape of a ball.

cube cube - a three- dimensional shape with six square or rectangular sides.
