Design / Build Lessons Learned Structured Cabling Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Start enabling works and cable pulling early. Post termination testing is essential. Accuracy of cable and IMO labeling will reduce time to take a system live. An accurate and verifiable Cable Management System is helpful.

Design / Build Lessons Learned Security Systems Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Construction companies are not the best candidates for security design. The security design must be completed early. Involve end user early. CCTV Cameras, lenses and housings are long lead items. Post design changes can add considerable delay in the schedule.

Design / Build Lessons Learned FOCB Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Ensure equipment is not purchased too early. Better to have one supplier/ vendor for supply and installation rather than multiples.

| 10 © 2014 Rockwell Collins. All rights reserved. The more contractors involved in an ACS door will result in a more complicated and time consuming commissioning process. Either use one contractor for all ACS door work including: Door Jam installation. Door installation. Lock mechanism selection and installation. ACS system installation. Perform total door commissioning. Design / Build Lessons Learned Access Control System Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design

| 11 © 2014 Rockwell Collins. All rights reserved. Design / Build Lessons Learned Access Control System Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Or require a joint commissioning of ACS doors by all providers and do not pay any provider till all components work properly. Get users involved early in final door functionality to reduce post opening changes in functionality. Once the doors are hung define and enforce construction entrance and exit routes. Doors are commonly place out of alignment by construction workers propping doors open with whatever they have. It is not uncommon to perform reworks on 25+% commissioned works when construction access is not controlled.

Design / Build Lessons Learned WiFi Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Determine how WiFi will be provided to passengers. Will it be free? Will it be Pay as you go? Will airport employees have access? Will it be filtered? Will there be airport / airline use of the WiFi? How many concurrent connections? How many concurrent connections are expected? Will multiple SSIDs be required? All of the above will determine bandwidth required and affect the LAN design.

Design / Build Lessons Learned WiFi Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Design coverage to meet requirements. Verify coverage with coverage mapping tools. Also consider making WiFi available to ORAT trial passengers.

Design / Build Lessons Learned Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Design and build Integrations as soon as possible. Establish a representative test system early to allow integration testing and follow-on support of live operations.

Design / Build Lessons Learned CUTE / CUPPS Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Understand how you will use the Flexibility of Airline use CUTE / CUPPS provide Coordination with furniture provider essential to allow for efficient agent and passenger experience. CUSS, Common bag drop – Understand how these will be used. Ensure that future technology is accounted for within design and deliverables.

| 17 © 2014 Rockwell Collins. All rights reserved. Design / Build Lessons Learned Schedule Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Create a consolidated schedule with appropriate dependency milestones immediately after design is complete. Milestones must be clear and definitive. Review and update regularly. Maintain a consolidated schedule. Accurate dependencies will allow early warning of slippages.

| 18 © 2014 Rockwell Collins. All rights reserved. Design / Build Lessons Learned Contractual Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Work with bidders to develop readiness checklist where dependencies on others works may delay their works. Use the checklist as milestones in contractor’s contract. E.g. The manhole acceptance checklist for the FOCB contractor would be a milestone in the manhole construction contractor contract. E.g. The technical room checklist from the LAN and Server contractors would be included in the construction contractor responsible for the build of the technical room.

Design / Build Lessons Learned Change Control Board –  [Construction and all system providers] Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Establish a Change Control Board. Participants include: Client, Engineer/Consultant, Architect, Main Contractor, special systems representative. Any contractor that may be affected by a change.

| 20 © 2014 Rockwell Collins. All rights reserved. Design / Build Lessons Learned Change Control Board Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design One approved change may result in multiple change orders. Most proposed changes affect more than the contractor who must perform the proposed change. Procurement lead times are always a consideration. Gathering all the resultant ripple effect changes will allow a better understanding of the total cost in money and time of a proposed change.

Design / Build Lessons Learned Administrative Integrations CUTE Schedule Contractual Change Control Board Administrative Construction & Special Systems Coordination Structured Cabling Security Systems FOCB Access Control System WiFi Airport Operational System Design Maintain an electronic document control system that is optimized for searching. Do not conduct training too early – these are perishable skills. Personnel attending training should be assigned to the training in lieu of normal daily duties. A dedicated user/operator team should be assigned to the project from the start to ensure everything is designed and built to support the way the operator envisions operating the airport.
