What is Smart Beam ?

Multiple-element antennas can have different combinations switching to reach the optimal performance. Reduce interference levels and transmit the signal in the direction of the particular users. Auto selecting the antenna composition based on connected Station traffic quality according to “Packet Error Rate”, “Received signal” and “throughput”.

The D-Link Smart Beam TM technology can differentiate the desired, and undesired signals (interferences) such as 2.4GHz cordless phone, wireless cameras and microwave ovens, and alternatively focus on the conversations at a time. Extend the coverage The D-Link SmartBeam TM system can automatically optimize its reception pattern and maximize the signal gain toward to the desired users to reduce the dead spots and extend the link range. Interference Mitigation The system can select the “best” antenna composition to provide the service in a specific direction. This minimizes the co-channel interference and improves the SNR (signal- to-interference ratio) of the received signals effectively by avoiding sending the signals to the undesired users. Power Efficiency The system combines the inputs to multiple elements for more power gain and utilize the signal strength to prevent from wasting energy.

The Performance

 Test environment: 1.Office (about 7000 square feet) 2.DUT (AP) in association with STA2  DUTs: (AP) 1.DAP-1525 with Smart Antenna 2.4dBi dipole antenna solution 3.2dBi dipole antenna solution  Test Set-up: The Interference AP is 2.2M around with STA1; and The DUTs are associated with STA2.

 Environment: 1.Office environment at 7 locations with different ranges. 2.Test in different floors (4 th Floor  5 th Floor) 3.UDP throughput test  DUTs: 1.D-Link DAP-1525 AP mode v.s DAP-1525 Bridge mode (4dBi antenna gain) 2. Ruckus 7811 AP v.s 7111 Adaptor (7dBi antenna gain)

In terms of the above test results, it is obvious to see the DAP-1525 with D-Link SmartBeam TM antenna is able to : Increase almost 50% throughput more in a single client connection, with interference STA around. For media streaming application, D-Link DAP-1525 can provide very competitive connection performance and quality compared to other solutions ! Able to provide better vertical coverage (across-floor) more than dipole antenna solutions and Ruckus !
