Globalization of Bollywood Language and Culture: Group name: New York

What is Bollywood? Hindi film industry Leading film producer in India and one of the biggest in the entire world. 1990’s: Globalization began when it went under new reform 2000’s: Significant growth in popularity around the world Movies can be seen on satellite TV, imported foreign films, and local cinema. Films created more box office successes globally

What Influenced Bollywood? Parsi theatre, Hollywood, and western musical television (MTV) Movies incorporate different languages to use regional dialects (ex: Dhoom 2) Hinglish: mix of Hindi and English which shows westernization of Bollywood films Dance: use of western, Latin, and Arabic dance moves Some film story lines are exact copies of Hollywood films (ex: Partner vs. Hitch)

What makes Bollywood important? Bollywood encompasses the values and traditions of the Indian Culture and tradition. It has become a world wide leader in entertainment Bollywood is one aspect of India that is evolving and growing. Representation of India and a source of entertainment for a large population. More important than sports.

Bollywood’s influence: Better quality, cinematography, interesting story lines, technological enhancements Western countries such as United Kingdom, Canada, and United States gained interest Western culture uses the theme of reincarnation due to Bollywood Influenced musical films and revived musical film genre in America (ex: Moulin Rougue) Indian stories are being financed by western countries (increase of co-productions) Use of Bollywood music by hip-hop artists Songs and albums world-wide inspired by Bollywood

Music and Films: Masala Films Bollywood culture has two main components.. Music Film Goined Together, is the very popular musicals that shape the Bollywood culture today.

Musicals Most of these differences reflect the moral, religious, and ethical differences in the culture. Majority of Bollywood actors and actresses have the same fame and popularity as there Western counterparts in Hollywood. Language barrier is the only restriction, but more films are creating English Subtitles.
