19 Aziende Sanitarie (4 Medical Faculties, 1 teaching hospital, 1 Research Institute, 13 local health Aziende) employees 67 public hospitals, 46 private ones (10% of total of beds) 4,1 beds for acute people/1000 inhabitants; 0,7 beds for chronic people /1000; residence beds 4,6/1000, day residence 1,6/ family doctors, 2000 paediatricians in 42 health districts

Local Health Aziende serve roughly a provinces territory, have responsibility on disease prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. They have the task of commissioning and providing services (Primary Care - children, adults and old people - ; Hospital Care - small and medium size hospitals; Ambulatory Care; Residential Care; Mental Health; Prevention Services). Hospital Aziende are pure providers, at a high specialisation level.
