SDMX is a live project for INEGI We have some advances, but a lot of work ahead As INEGI gets proficiency in the use of SDMX new challenges are coming

SDMX Information model (Conceptual philosophy) SDMX Information model (Conceptual philosophy) Content-oriented guidelines (Concept guidelines and shared codelists) Content-oriented guidelines (Concept guidelines and shared codelists) IT infrastructure for exchange and sharing (IT platform) IT infrastructure for exchange and sharing (IT platform) A balance is needed between the technical and the conceptual components

SDMX Group – Strategy and direction of the implementation – Integrated by several units (statistical areas, dissemination, international affairs, information technologies)

Implementation of SDMX at INEGI is supported by the High Level Management of INEGI Use of SDMX is documented in the “Strategic Plan of the National System of Statistical and Geographical Information

PUBLICATION: An information producer leaves a SDMX dataflow available for a collector as an intermediate product. The collector pulls the data and adds value for the end user. COLLECTION: An organization gathers together SDMX data-flows containing statistical data in an standardized way, so it can be used to feed its systems/databases DISSEMINATION: Although SDMX’s primary goal is the exchange of statistical data and metadata, it provides a way to make information interoperable between platforms and independent from devices. Several organizations are working in the development of “software tools” which use SDMX data-flows as inputs to display chars, maps, etc.

International and domestic use – INEGI as an informant (publication) Exchange with international organizations (first with OECD and then with others like UN, IMF, World Bank) – INEGI as an information disseminator Indicators from public databases disseminated at INEGI’s Internet portal – INEGI as collector and integrator of information (coordinator of a National Statistical and Geographical Information Network –SNIEG-) Collection of statistical information from Mexican public, private and academic institutions

READ-ONLY SQL Dissemination Databases Reference Infrastructure (based on Eurostat’s) REST / SOAP Sociodemographic Indicators Economic Indicators DWH MDG

Development of IT infrastructure to support the collection and integration of statistical information with SDMX Continuing training and support in SDMX (conceptual and technical) to increase the number of skilled personnel required by the SDMX project Development of pilot projects with other national institutions and international organizations to extend the use of SDMX Development of tools to make use of SDMX friendly for “real” people Design and mapping of new dataflows based in the information that we have in our dissemination databases to increase our data availability in SDMX
