Mysterious Phenomena: Stonehenge by Kayla Dyer.

Stonehenge Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument Located in the English county of Wlltshire. The site is 3.2 kilometers west of Amesbury. It is Mysterious Phenomena because of all the myths surround it creation and use. We know about it because Archaeologists found Stonehenge and date it back to 2500 BC

STONEHENGE

Stonehenge is a not a mystery because scientists can date the history and know now how Stonehenge got there who made it. The mystery part is how they construct it with the tools that had during the time it was made and why it was created.

STONEHENGE Scientist believe that three cultures built the structure. The site was built in three stages. The WindmillHill were first they were from the Neolotjc culture they were hunters and gathers. Beaker second were from Europe they built the second Stonehenge. Wessex people from the Bronze Era built the third and last part.

STONEHENGE The name “Stonehenge came form the Saxons which orginally called it Stanhenge. Henge mans “to hang”. Stan is Old English for stone. Stonehenge is a big dish of tall rocks and inside is smaller rocks in a horseshoe shape. “There are over 900 stone circles that are similar all over great Britain alone” A few landmarks also match to Stonehenge appear all over Europe”. The scientist in 2008 found that the site was used as a burial ground from the beginning. The site of cremations dated back to 3000 BC.

STONEHENGE THEORIES The site was a season clock. A religious structure. Most today believe is an advance calendar to mark, to predict and observe astronomical and season changes. Line up with the sun to predict change.

Conclusion There are so many myths and stories about Stonehenge. My favorite legend was that “dancing gaints turned into stone which creates the circle and the most famous that it was created by UFO’s and aliens.

STONEHENGE Scientist with all their new techniques of dating the ruins have proved that the structure was developed over thousands of years and from the articles found in the site have been used by many cultures. The weigh of the stones would have taken and the measurement showed that great detail was put into the structure. Based on the weigh of the stones it would take 500 men to move the stones. Scientist believe that the stones were move during the winter on the ice by sliding to make it easier.

STONEHENGE Only part of the structure exist today because later generation took stone from it to build roads and house. It s protected today by the government because it is the biggest stone circles in the world. Experts believe that they have solved the mysteries but many still wonder if they are correct. Experts will continue to try and solve the mystery.
