Star

Q What is galaxy? A: Galaxy is a massive collection of stars, gas and dust.

Q Name the types of galaxies Q Name the types of galaxies. A: 1) Spiral = Long twisting arms give birth to new stars. Milky Way is spiral galaxy. 2) Elliptical = Egg shaped; do not give birth to new stars. 3) Irregular = No shape, made up of gas, dust and a few new stars.

Q Where do we live? A: We live in Milky Way.

Q What is solar system? A: The solar system is our Sun and the eight major planets that orbit around it. It also includes moons of the planets as well as asteroids and comets.

Q How does our sun and other planets form Q How does our sun and other planets form? A: More than about five billion years ago, the sun and the planets form from the clouds of gas and dust that was hundreds of km wide. The force of gravitation pulled it into the shape of a huge, flat wheel. Because gravity pulls equally from all directions, it squeezed into shape of round ball. The sun and other planets form like this.

Q What is the shape of the earth, the moon and the sun Q What is the shape of the earth, the moon and the sun? A: The earth, the moon and the sun are spherical in shape. It means that it is shaped like a ball but is slightly flattened at the poles.

Q Why do planets and moons continue to orbit Q Why do planets and moons continue to orbit? A Gravity holds the planets in orbit round the sun and the moons in orbit round the planets.

Q What is a star? A: Stars are massive objects in the universe which release their own energy through nuclear reactions. The sun is our nearest star.

Q What are constellation Q What are constellation? A: A constellation is a group of stars in the sky which form different shapes.

Q What are super nova’s? A: Giant star that ends with a massive explosion are called super nova. They shine brightly for long time when they explode.

Q What is the Sun? A: The Sun is a star at the centre of our solar system. It is about 75% hydrogen and 25% helium. The sun actually makes up 99.9% of the mass of the entire solar system. It is so big that 1.3 million earths could fit in it.

Q What does the Sun gives us Q What does the Sun gives us? A: It gives us energy in the form of light and heat. Light helps us to see things. Sunlight helps plants to make their food. It also keeps the earth warm enough for us to survive.
