Introduction  Air Traffic Controller- Inspect and monitor transportation equipment, vehicles or systems to ensure compliance with regulations and safety standards  Actuaries- Conduct research into fundamental computer and information science as theorists, designers, or inventors. Solve or develop solutions to problems in the field of computer hardware and software.  Computer and Information Research Scientist- Teach courses in computer science. May specialize in a field of computer science, such as the design and function of computers or operations and research analysis.

Nature of Work Air Traffic Controller- Inspect and monitor transportation Actuaries- Conduct research into fundamental Computer and Information Research Scientist- Teach courses in computer science.

Working Conditions Air Traffic Controller- Air traffic controllers work in control towers, approach control facilities, or route centers. Their work can be stressful because total concentration is required at all times. Night, weekend, and rotating shifts are common. Actuaries- Actuaries analyze the financial costs of risk and uncertainty. They use mathematics, statistics, and financial theory to assess the risk that an event will occur and they help businesses and clients develop policies that minimize the cost of that risk. Actuaries’ work is essential to the insurance industry. Computer and Information Research Scientist- Most computer and information research scientists work full time. Those working on independent research may have flexible work schedules.

Training Air Traffic Controller- Employees in these occupations usually need one or two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers. A recognized apprenticeship program may be associated with these occupations. Actuaries- Employees may need some on-the-job training, but most of these occupations assume that the person will already have the required skills, knowledge, work-related experience, and/or training. Computer scientists are likely to enjoy excellent job prospects, because many companies report difficulties finding these highly skilled workers.
