BASIC BIBLE DOCTRINES Bible Study Guide Lesson 5 What Must I do to be Saved?

INTRODUCTION “What Must I do to be Saved?” This is the most important question that a person can ask or should ask. The answer to this question determines one's eternal destiny. It is a question that has been asked over and over again, both in the Bible and by many today. In this Lesson we will be seeking to give Biblical answers to this important question, as we study the true condition of the sinner and what has been done and what must be done for the sinner to have eternal life.

1. How does the Bible describe the condition of those who are living without Christ in this world? Titus 3:3; Romans 3:23 “For we ourselves also were sometimes _______________, _______________, _____________, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in ______________ and ____________, hateful, and ___________________________________.” “For _______________ have ______________, and come short of the glory of God;” foolish disobedient deceived malice envy Hating one another all sinned

NOTE: Because of the sinful nature that we inherit from Adam, all men are born separated from God. Therefore, without Christ, all men are by nature sinful and stand guilty before God.

2. What is the ultimate consequence of sin? Romans 6:23 “For the _________________________ of sin is _________________” (see also James 1:15). wages death

NOTE: Death is the ultimate punishment for sin. This death refers to eternal separation from God, which the wicked will experience at the last day (see Revelation 20:14, 15). No one has already experienced this kind of death, except for Jesus, who suffered the true consequence for sin on the cross.

3. Can man do anything on his own to make himself right with God 3. Can man do anything on his own to make himself right with God? Jeremiah 13:23 “Can the _____________ change his ___________, or the ___________ his ______________? then may ye also do ____________, that are accustomed to do ________________.” Ethiopian skin leopard spots good evil

NOTE: No. Sin is as much a part of our nature as the spots in the leopard's body and the color of the Ethiopian's skin (Psalm 51:5). Therefore, there is nothing that man can do (of himself) to be made righteous.

5. What is God's attitude towards the sinner? John 3:17. “For God _______________ his Son into the ______________to _____________________ the world; but that the world through him might be __________________” (see also 2 Peter 3:9; Ezekiel 33:11). Not world condemn saved

NOTE: Though God hates sin, He loves the sinner and does not wish for the sinner to die in his/her sins. That is why He has done and will do all in His power to save us from sin.

6. What has God done to save the sinner? Romans 5:8 “But God ____________________ his _____________toward us, in that, while we were yet __________________, Christ ________________for us.” commendeth love sinners died

NOTE: Because the sinner could do nothing to save himself, Jesus, the Son of God, decided to take our guilt upon Himself; died in our place and offer to us salvation as a gift.

7. What is the only means by which the sinner can be saved 7. What is the only means by which the sinner can be saved?
