Catholic Basics The Epiphany

“Epiphany” comes from the Greek for “to reveal” or “to manifest.” Eastern Christians call this feast “Theophany,” or “revelation of God to man.” Traditionally celebrated on the 12 th day of Christmas, January 6, in America it is now celebrated on the Sunday between January 2 and 8.

Four themes of Epiphany 1. Jesus is revealed as Son of God + Reinforced the next week in the account of Jesus’ baptism 2. Jesus’ kingship over the entire world

Four themes of Epiphany 3. Jesus is the Light of the world—revealed to all the nations 4. Jesus as the Bridegroom—the gifts of the Magi become wedding gifts to Him
