We celebrate Christmas in our country according to new calendar— on 7th of January and in Great Britain people celebrate it according to old calendar—on 25th of December

6 Christmas is a religious holiday. It is devoted to birth of Christ. It is based on the Bible events

7 Legend about Christ’s Birth Christmas glitters like a star among all the other holidays. It is not accidental that t he Vifleem Star tells the world mystery of Christ’s birth

8 The Magi see this Star and go to Vifleem city, where Virgin Mary gives birth to Jesus Christ. The star shows the Magi that the baby is not usual, it gives save to the people in the whole world.

9 An angel comes to the shepherds who sit near the cavern where Mary give born to Jesus and tell them about the born of the Saver. The shepherds come to the cavern and find Mary, Jesus and the baby.

10 Christmas Eve There is a strict fast before Christmas. It lasts 40 days. The last day of the fast and the day before Christmas is called Christmas Eve. The Russian word сочельник is from word сочиво. It is a mix of corns and berries. People can eat only this dish during the day. They must not eat till the first star appears on the sky.

11 Twelve days after Christmas till the Epiphany are called holly days. People do not fast during these days. Holly days are not only joy and fun. It is a tradition to attend Christmas services, to make charity things.

Legend about Jesus Christ born is based on the Bible. There is a 40 days fast before Christmas. The interview of pupils shows that most of them know the legend about Christ’s born but they know a little about Christmas Eve and fast and we think it is also important.
